Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator anchor and commentator for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years later as general reporter. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House and became chief of the congressional reporter in 1988. She was promoted to the chief White House correspondent in 1992 and chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell has been a panelist, as well as presenter of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was on an audience for the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg the award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to cover White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell covered a variety of notable news issues, such as the weapons control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also went to various summits while in the company of President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
